Login troubles

I forgot my password... can you send it to me?

There is
a link on the front page where you can retrieve your username and password with your email address.

My username isn't working!

Be sure you're entering it exactly as you typed it in when you signed up... it is case sensitive (ie: username and Username are different). You might want to check your confirmation email that was sent to you to make sure it's entered ok.

I never got my confirmation number!

The usual reason that the confirmation number doesn't make it out is because the email address that was entered during signup wasn't entered properly. If you're sure this is not the case, you can request the confirmation email get resent by entering your username and password, and clicking on the 'Resend confirmation' link below the confirmation number entry prompt.

The credit system

What are credits?

Credits are points which can be used to view images. Every time you view an image, you use 2 credits. You get one of these credits back when you vote on the image.

How do I get credits?

If you upload an image which gets used on the site, you get credits. Watch the post-login page (the one right after you enter your username and password) for a listing of what happened to your images.

I have a whole bunch of credits but it says I'm blocked from downloading? Why?

There is a download block in place for anyone without
unlimited credits - as it's the only way we can think of to encourage people to help contribute and balance out the bandwidth costs of running the site while keeping the image viewing free.

How can I browse your site without credits?

There's been a lot of people asking this, so we've added an option to allow you to buy 14 days of credit free membership - for 14 days credits do not apply and you can look at as many images as you like. As an added bonus, members who contribute to the site lose the download block on the images and can download whatever they like. To turn off credits for 2 weeks just click here

I uploaded an image but didn't get credits, why not?

We don't use every image that is uploaded due to a variety of reasons (image size, image quality, indistinguishable/faceless shot, copyrighted image, etc...) and only give credits for the images we use. Watch the post-login page -- once we get around to sorting your image, this page will show a message detailing if it was used (and which section it went into) or why it was not used.

I uploaded an image 5 minutes ago and still don't have credits! Why not!?

Patience, grasshopper... unfortunately we do like to step away from the computer from time to time and can't sort images instaneously. Next time we sit down in front of a computer though, we usually attend to sorting, and you'll get the credits as soon as your images are sorted.

How we sort and choose images

What do you mean by "image has no face"? There's lots of images without faces?

Yeah, this is where sorting images is less a science, and more of an art... what we're trying to do is reuse existing images - a lot of people recrop existing images so that they're not recognizable, usually by removing the face. So unless an image is recognizable and distinguishable, the rule of thumb is that we will not post the image if there's no face in the shot.

You said my image was likely copyrighted? I took it myself and want you to have it! Why didn't you use it?

One thing we're trying our best to avoid here is using copyrighted works (which is why the first upload rule is that 'you must hold the copyright or have permission to upload this image'). Even though we discourage people from uploading copyrighted works, some people get overeager for credits and do upload images which don't belong to them. The way we try to keep those images from appearing on the site is by not allowing any black + white images (95% of them are scans from magazines), anything with URLs or copyright notices on the image, and anything which looks like it was professionally produced in a studio - it's this latter one which likely applies here: your image just looked too good, and we figured it was a professionaly produced image, and rejected it as likely copyrighted. A bit of a pain, I agree, but to protect the rights of people producing images, sometimes we need to error on their behalf.

Copyright and image removal

Hey - my image is on your site! Take it down now!

No problem whatsoever - we're happy to. We're not here to step on anyone's toes, and will gladly honor someone's wish not to be on the site, or to prevent their copyrighted works from appearing on this site. If you would like to have an image removed, please email us either the image number (ie: 12345.jpg = image number 12345) or the section an image number within that section (ie: Image number 250 in the General section - to get the number, use the left and right navigation drop down bars to tell you the image range you're looking at and then just count in from the first one). We take these emails very seriously and will remove them for you as soon as we check our email.

My image is on your site! Tell me who uploaded it!

Sorry, but we can't... just like you expect your privacy to be kept secret on this site, we've got to respect the privacy of the person who uploaded an image... Sorry.

I am an artist and I don't want my pictures appearing on your site - how can I block them from being uploaded to your site?

Easy - we have a page set up which will allow you to upload your images just like the image donation page, but instead of posting your image, it will remove any copies of your image it finds on the site, and prevent it from being uploaded again. If you are a producer, we are happy to run you through the process and help keep your copyrighted works off the site - just email us and we'll help guide you through it.

Subscriptions

How do I cancel my subscription?

Paid subscriptions can be cancelled easily, but varies slightly depending which billing company you chose to sign up with. Just click on the billing company you used to be taken to their cancel link:
CCbill or Verotel

How does the discounted subscription work?

There seems to be some confusion with members signing up and not understanding or taking the time to read about how the discounted memberships work. With the number of members who were signing up every two weeks, I wanted to offer a discount to those who continually helped to support the site. The way this works is that anyone who chooses to stay signed up beyond the two weeks receives a discounted monthly renewal rate that's quite a bit cheaper than the regular signup. The signup buttons for the discounted rate are clearly marked on the signup page (as well as clearly marked alternative buttons if you do not want the discount), and you need to confirm this discount before your purchase so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. For information about cancelling your subscriptions see the 'How do I cancel my subscription' question above.

General Questions
All your thumbnails and pictures are showing up as broken or with Xs instead! Is the site broken?

This is usually caused by a program running on your computer that is blocking the images (in particular, something that is preventing the sending of the URL_REFERRER field). To prevent this from happening, you need to configure your software to send the information required by the site to display the images - there are too many different software packages and procedures to give an guide for each, but please be assured that the site will work fine once you figure out what setting needs to be changed on your end.

  • Click OK

Why do some thumbnails show up with red borders?

Those are images where the person wants to be contacted from their picture and has attached their email address.

Add to Favorites? What is my Favorites List?

This lets you build a list of your favorite images so you can go back to them without having to search through the entire site to find them. All you have to do is click on the "Add to Favorites" button when you open an image and you'll be able to revisit a complete list of your favorites from the main menu (there's a link to View all your favorites in the middle once you've added an image). Since anything you add to your favorites, you've already seen, it'll only use up 1 credit to view an image in your favorites list - no 2 credits until you vote type thing, just one credit to view any image in your favorites list.

Hint You can now show off your favorites to your friends - you'll find a URL at the top of your favorites page which you can send to friends so they can check out your page too. You can also send that URL out for other reasons: in chat rooms to explain to people what kind of images you like, as a link on your own website to showcase your own private gallery, anything -- it's your creation, so spread the word!

If you still find that your question has not been answered, please email me and I will respond as soon as I'm back at the computer next. Please note that asking questions that are answered on this page will likely get you ignored... :)
